The FSV (Flat Sand Valve) is Clemco's standard abrasive metering valve on Classic-series blast machines. When the FSV wears, abrasive flow becomes erratic, output PSI drops, and production tanks. Most service jobs are 15 minutes with the right parts on the shelf.
1. Diagnose the Failure Mode
- No abrasive flow — disc stuck closed, packing seized, or metering stem broken.
- Abrasive flow won't stop — disc/seat wear, gasket failure.
- Erratic surging flow — disc partial wear, gasket leak, moisture in pot.
- Abrasive leaking out of stem — packing gland blown.
2. Standard Service Kit Contents
- CC 02422 FSV upper body (if cracked)
- CC 02423 metering valve disc with stem
- CC 02424 rubber gasket
- CC 02425 stainless disc (premium upgrade)
- CC 02426 lower body
- CC 02437 packing gland
- CC 02440 inspect plate
Stocking recommendation: Carry one full rebuild kit per active blast machine in the rental fleet. A pot down because of a $40 gasket is a $4,000 day.
