Portable Drive System
Details
The Clemtex Portable Drive System (PDS) is designed to provide a constant drive speed to retract either a 1" ID blast hose for blasting, or a 1-1/4" diameter pipe lance for blasting or coating the internal diameter of pipes.
The PDS consists of a four (4) wheel drive mechanism. The top wheels act as the driving force to move the blast/coating lance or blast hose in and out of the pipe while the bottom wheels support the lance or hose. Control solenoids included will control blast or paint equipment. All components including the control panel are built into one skid that has forklift slots for lifting and positioning.

Models Available
PDS-B Basic Model
The PDS-B Basic model allows an operator to retract either a blast hose or lance at a constant speed through the pipe. Buttons and switches on the front of the control panel give the operator the ability to start/stop the motor, change the direction of the drive wheels, control the speed of the blast hose or lance, and start/stop the solenoids controlling air and material for the blasting and painting operation.
Key Components of the PDS-B System include:
- Skid frame with fork slots for ease of movement
- Control panel prewired with control switches and buttons
- Drive motor and gearbox – Transfers electrical energy to mechanical driving force to move the lance or blast hose through the pipe
- Drive and Idle Wheels to drive the blast hose or lance through the pipe at the set speed
PDS-A Advanced Model
The PDS-A Advanced model is a PLC controlled system designed to auto calculate retraction speed of the lance or the blast hose based on the parameters entered into the touchscreen. The operator will enter data such as pipe ID, length, coating specs (for painting), etc. Using this data, the PLC will drive to the opposite end of the pipe, turn on the blast or paint equipment automatically, and start retracting at the calculated speed. Once the end of the lance has retracted fully through the pipe, the system will automatically stop the blasting or painting operation.
Key Components of the PDS-A System:
- Human Machine Interface (HMI) – Touchscreen used to input data into the PLC
- 8-Button Touch Pad to allow operator perform general functions without interfacing through the touchscreen
- Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) – Takes data entered into the touchscreen and outputs the signal to the drive motor and solenoids to control the operation of the system
- Incremental Encoder – Monitors position of the lance or hose at all times and sends this data to the PLC
Add-Ons for I.D. Coating Applications
For coating applications, one of the following coating packages must be purchased with the PDS unit. These packages do not include a paint tank (low pressure), airless pump (high pressure), lance, or I.D. coating tool.
- PDSLP – Low Pressure Coating Package: Low pressure fluid On/Off valve, 25 ft Fluid hose (paint pot to fluid valve), 50 ft Fluid Hose (On/Off valve to Coating Applicator), 50 ft 3/8” Air Hose Assy. (for Atomization air). Note: Paint Tank or Pump not included.
- PDSHP – High Pressure Coating Package: Automatic HP Coating On/Off Valve, Back Pressure Orifice Assy. (please specify orifice size from coating Technical Data Sheet), 25ft of Airless Hose (Airless pump to HP On/Off valve), 50ft of Airless Hose (HP On/Off valve to Coating Applicator), 50 ft x 3/8” Air Hose Assy (for Atomization air if needed). Note: Airless Pump not included.
Abrasive Blasting Setup
Connecting the PDS to your existing blast machine is simple. A single 1/4" air hose connects to the standard pneumatic inlet valve on most machines. For a full "blow down" sequence, use an automatic abrasive metering valve to shut off grit flow and allow only clean air through the blast hose and nozzles.
Accessories
| Part Number | Description |
|---|---|
| PDSL12 | PDS Lift Table used to center lance to pipe. Consists of: • Skid base with fork slots to easily move with forklift • 12” travel distance |
| PDSCT50 | PDS Cart, Track, and Lance Assy, 50ft. Cart and Track supports lance for a smooth transition in and out of pipe. This system includes: • Track system for cart to roll on including guide trough for cable carrier • Cart – Adjustable in height to match lance centerline of PDS. • Lance – 1-1/4” sch. 80 pipe used for blasting or painting. For painting, lance encloses fluid and air hoses for spray system. • Cable Carrier – Provides protection and smooth motion of blast hose or paint air and fluid lines as they system moves • Also available in 30ft and 50ft assemblies |
